Weather switch is going on, is prompted principally by means of human actions, and poses major dangers for--and in lots of instances is already affecting--a large diversity of human and average structures. The compelling case for those conclusions is equipped in Advancing the technology of weather swap, a part of a congressionally asked suite of experiences referred to as America's weather offerings. whereas noting that there's constantly extra to profit and that the medical technique is rarely closed, the ebook exhibits that hypotheses approximately weather swap are supported through a number of traces of facts and feature stood company within the face of great debate and cautious overview of different causes. These data are corroborated by a variety of independent observations that indicate warming in other parts of the Earth system, including the cryosphere (the frozen portions of Earth’s surface), the lower atmosphere, and the oceans. • Most of the warming over the last several decades can be attributed to human activities that release carbon dioxide (CO2) and other heat-trapping greenhouse gases (GHGs) into the atmosphere.

The nation currently has the capabilities and capacity to make incremental progress in some of these key research areas, but making more dramatic improvements in our understanding of and ability to respond to climate change will require several fundamental alterations in the support for and organization and conduct of climate change research. RECOMMENDATIONS Recommendation 1: The nation’s climate change research enterprise should include and integrate disciplinary and interdisciplinary research across the physical, social, biological, health, and engineering sciences; focus on fundamental, use-inspired research that contributes to both improved understanding and more effective decision making; and be flexible in identifying and pursuing emerging research challenges.

It also influences the health of ecosystems that provide goods and services for humans and for the other species with which we share the planet. In turn, human activities are influencing climate. As discussed in the following chapters, scientific evidence that the Earth is warming is now overwhelming. There is also a multitude of evidence that this warming results primarily from human activities, especially burning fossil fuels and other activities that release heat-trapping greenhouse gases (GHGs) into the atmosphere.
